The Black Sheep A New Life

SYNOPSIS The Black Sheep, A New Life is a collection of stories that sum up a memoir and a documentary about the author and Zimbabwe at large. It creates an intriguing resonance between the two in unfolding chapters from The Year of Hunger which discusses Zimbabwe in the year 2008, looking at the Political, economic and social landscape of the country. It, therefore, highlights the political rot of the country at that time which led to the economic meltdown in the form of hyperinflation, unemployment and other social vices like vandalism of state property. In Chiadzwa the Blood Diamond, The Billion Dollar Question I talk about my observations of the period when the Diamond mineral burst in the Manicaland Province where I come from. This gives rise to a lot of business from the East expanding to the rest of the country. People died and the survivors narrate horrific experiences. The story also gives full detail on the difficulties I faced growing up as a result of not having my father with me. The need for a sense of belonging drove me away from normal life as a young boy. As the story unfolds, I flee to Mozambique in a quest for a new life as a 15-year-old boy and then find myself back home in the next two days. I also go to The Turkish Republic of North Cyprus in the following years where I face a difficult life and return home to start afresh on the quest for a new life. On my return home I am welcomed by theĀ coup not a coupĀ and transition into the new dispensation in my country.
